Primaries amongst top in country based on screening checks - Schools Minister
Minister for Schools Damien Hinds has written to Scarcliffe Primary School and Palterton Primary School to congratulate them on achievements which rank them amongst the top performing schools in the country.
Writing on behalf of the Department for Education, Mr Hinds delivered the news that Scarcliffe Primary School was in the top 1% of primary schools in the country in the Phonics Screening Check. The minister said it was ‘outstanding’ that 100% of Year 1 pupils at Scarcliffe had met the expected standard.
“Your particular success in teaching phonics and early reading so effectively means your pupils are developing a firm foundation, from which they can become increasingly fluent and develop a lifelong love of reading,” he wrote in a letter to headteacher Ian Marsh.
I was delighted to see your results.

Mr Hinds wrote to headteacher Ros Horsley: “The excellent achievement of your pupils is something the Government hopes to see replicated in schools across the country.”
“I would like both to congratulate your staff and pupils for their hard work and to thank you for your leadership in continuing to promote the important subject of mathematics.”
