Bright futures ahead: ambitious students explore exciting opportunities during National Careers Week
Last week, our students took important steps towards shaping their futures, engaging in a variety of insightful activities and events throughout National Careers Week across Redhill Academy Trust.
Developed by our Trust Careers and Aspirations Lead, Kary Jane, the programme sparked ambitions and encouraged students to think big about life after school, whilst offering motivation and practical guidance for future decision‑making.
Reflecting on the week’s events, Kary said: “What an inspiring National Careers Week it has been across our schools.”
“Our students have embraced every opportunity to explore their futures. A huge thank you to all staff, students, and employer partners who made this week such a success.”
Highlights from the week
Careers fairs at The Carlton Academy and Colonel Frank Seely Academy brought together a diverse range of prospective employers, colleges, and universities, offering students the chance to ask questions, discover future pathways and widen their horizons.
Mock Interview Day at Park Vale Academy saw local employers volunteer their time to facilitate real‑life interview scenarios, providing valuable opportunities for students to build confidence and develop their communication skills.
Visits from companies and organisations covering a wide breadth of industries, including Specsavers and Nottingham
Forest as part of Industry Insight Day at South Nottinghamshire Academy, gave students a behind‑the-scenes look at career opportunities within the healthcare, hair and beauty, and sport sectors.
Meanwhile, year group assemblies from Nottingham Trent University broadened students’ understanding of potential career routes and supported them in recognising and considering their strengths and interests.
Sharing their experience, students from across our Trust said:
“The sessions helped me understand different career paths I didn’t know existed. It has made me feel more confident about what I want to do next.”
“I really liked hearing from actual employers. It was interesting to learn how people got into their jobs.”
“I found it useful to learn about apprenticeships and different routes after sixth form. It helped me realise there isn’t just one ‘right’ path.”
