Redhill alumni praise Oxford experience

Sarah Large at OxfordWe are really proud that two ex-Redhill students appeared in a recent copy of the magazine for  Magdalen College, Oxford. Magdalen is one of the link colleges for Nottinghamshire and we have built up a great working relationship with them over the years.

We take students to visit The University of Oxford in both Year 11 and 12, and during our last visit we were delighted that the tour was conducted by one of our former students Ben. We now have three Redhillians currently studying there; one in each year. Ben Watkins (third year) who is studying History and is also a member of their prestigious world famous choir, Sarah Large who is also an Historian (second year) and Luca Geary who joined this September to study Law and German.

The Magdalen Stories magazine featured Ben talking about his role as a member of the choir. Sarah was featured in a two page spread about her work as an ambassador for the college encouraging state school students to apply. We are really happy that The Redhill Academy also got a very favorable mention, recognising all the work we have put in Ben Watkins at Oxfordto our Oxbridge programme over the last few years.

Here is a message from Sarah for all of our students:

“I would encourage anyone thinking about applying to do so. The teaching and facilities at Oxford are great and I have had an amazing experience so far. Tutors at Oxford are looking for your academic ability not where you come from, and you are just as capable as those from more privileged backgrounds. But at the same time, I would encourage you to pursue what you truly want to do in terms of higher education and choose a course you love, regardless of whether it is at Oxford or not.”
